Sensational Quality;
Another amazing performance during the Spring of 1978. While I was listening, unfortunately not during one sitting, I found the music absolutely divine. Splendid even, if you're so inclined. Some of my favorite songs are present here, mainly Estimated/Eyes. And, the Playing/Wheel/Playing sandwich is one to marvel at it's intricacy. Garcia's effects on the solo at the end of the first leg of Playing make me wonder all types of things. Is this even music anymore? Or the ramblings of a madman...I don't know. But, it's amazing nonetheless. Give these and 2/4 a listen. If you can, try and find Dicks Picks 18. I spend a little time looking and to no avail. However, Ms. Cantor-Jackson...Thank you so much for your preservation skills. And for the rest of the people involved. Your skills are appreciated beyond belief....Peace ~ Nick.

I watched the clouds below...
Great sound here! I think it is Weir high up in the mix, Great Estimated. EYES is epic and beautiful. Playing>Wheel>Playing = Sweet! Not sure if Dane County Coliseum is still around but my did they play very well at this venue!!! Just love this set!

torn and frayed
Up through the middle of Playin this is pretty phenomenal stuff and very well recorded (caveat: possibly Jerry's guitar is a bit "hot" ... or he's just playing loud and it's distorting ...anybody know?). It's definitely one of the most inspired versions of Eyes of the World in the post-break era. Jerry is really ripping it up. At some point partway into what started out as a pretty cool Playin' jam, Garcia wanders off stage or just stops and has a cigarette and a rather gaping absence of creative juice is exposed. This is one of those moments where some guitar player in the audience might very well be tempted to grab Bob's guitar and start giving him a lesson on how to improvise. Then Jerry returns and Bobby splits. Whatever.

Another HQ gem
A little frayed around the edges compared to the 2/4, but still totally amazing quality. The Eyes really skitters along nicely. And, a 24 minute Playing that drops into space mode after about 1 minute? Nice. The cool thing about the stuff that has come out lately is that it looks like it is in Dick's chunks that he used to make his tapes out of. If you read about him in the Compendium, you will see that he was not a purist in the sense that he had to listen to a show or set all the way through. He went for the meat b/c he knew there simply was not enough time to bother with Mexicali or the like.

I know this show has been officially released, but I really dig the sound of this transfer! Thanks Jim Wise!
